Caring for your skin after laser hair removal and skin treatments

Laser hair removal offers a convenient, fast, and easy solution for getting rid of unwanted hair. Laser skin treatments can also help your skin look more youthful and healthier by stimulating new collagen production. However, it’s essential to follow certain steps after each session to maintain the condition of your skin and enhance the results even further of going hair-free.

We always want you to get the most out of your treatment. One crucial aspect to consider is which products to use and which avoid in the post-treatment phase. To provide clarity on this topic, we have put together the following information for you.

Products to avoid after laser.

On the most part, you are able to keep up with your usual routine following laser hair removal and skin treatments, however; for the first two days after treatment, allow your skin time to heal by refraining from using any perfumed or cosmetic products. This also includes fake tanning products.

Avoid make-up and harsh products

Depending on the treated area, you may also need to avoid applying makeup for the initial few days following laser hair removal. Additionally, for best results, do not use topical creams or harsh products (even those prescribed by doctors), on the treated area for a couple of days as your skin may be more receptive to irritation in this time.

In order to maximise your results, care for your skin and avoid irritation following your treatments we recommend the following routines and products.

Sooth with Aleo Vera

Aloe vera based gels are highly recommended for promoting healing after treatment. Although the Motus Ay machine we use at Harborough Laser Clinic is pain-free, it’s still essential to soothe your skin afterward. Apply aloe vera gel directly to the treated area for the first 2-3 days. After that, you can continue using your usual skincare products.

Protect SPF 30+

It is important to remember to protect the treated area from direct sunlight in the time after treatment. Exposure to the sun’s powerful rays, even without signs of irritation, can cause skin irritation, leading to soreness and redness. Whenever you go outside, cover up and use sunscreen with SPF 30+ on the treated area. Artificial UV sources like sunbeds should also be avoided.

Clean with Cleanser

Keep the treated area clean by using a mild cleanser. Opt for products designed for sensitive skin. If you shower or bathe, use medium to cool water temperature during the initial days post-treatment.

Hydrate with Moisturiser

Moisturise your skin with products formulated for sensitive skin after laser hair removal treatments. This helps maintain cleanliness and hydration between sessions.

Gently Scrub and Exfoliate

In the weeks following laser hair removal and skin treatments, exfoliate your skin to promote healthy skin growth and renewal. Use a cloth and mild scrub wash, applying gentle circular motions. For optimal results, exfoliate 2-3 times a week.
